Why You’ll Love It
A superbly carved, museum-quality Chippendale ribbon-back armchair, meticulously handcrafted from wood and upholstered in fine silk by the legendary British master miniaturist and IGMA Fellow Mark Gooch. The center backrest features a spectacular, hand-carved "ribbon-back" pattern, one of Thomas Chippendale's most difficult designs. It realistically replicates intertwined silk ribbons tied in a central knot. Designed with a classic yoke-shaped crest rail ending in out-scrolled ears, centered by a crisp, hand-carved shell motif. The front legs feature graceful S-curves ornamented with carved acanthus knees, tapering down into perfectly executed ball-and-claw feet. The front seat rail is decorated with a matching central shell carving, mirroring the crest rail above. The drop-in seat cushion is tightly wrapped in a pristine, cream-colored silk fabric with a subtle, fine-grained texture.
