Why You’ll Love It

This is a real oil painting in miniature scale of the French Rococo portrait depicting Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, the official mistress and cultural advisor to King Louis XV of France, widely known as ‘the King’s Favourite’’, painted circa 1760. It is a breathtaking 1:12 scale dollhouse miniature oil painting by the highly celebrated fine art miniature painter, Betsey Bradley. It is painted after the original by the prominent French painter Francois Boucher. In the painting, the Marquise is shown from the waist up, turning slightly toward the viewer with a soft, confident smile. Her dark hair is swept back into a fashionable, modest hairstyle. She is dressed in an opulent, low-cut peach and cream gown adorned with delicate lace. A heavy, shimmering blue-green silk cloak cascades over her shoulders and wraps around her arms, creating a vibrant color contrast against her fair skin and warm-toned dress. In her hands, she delicately holds a cluster of freshly cut pink roses. Roses were a personal emblem often used in her portraits to symbolize beauty, love, and her renowned passion for gardening. The miniature painting is encased in an elaborately ornamented gilded wood Rococo-style frame.
