Why You'll Love Her
Prepare to be intrigued by Miss Prudence Croaker, a truly one-of-a-kind, hand-sculpted clay character doll by the masterful late artist Marcia Backstrom! Miss Prudence is an older woman of formidable presence, her expressive face fixed in a perfectly stern expression complete with a raised eyebrow, side-glancing, aging eyes, and pursed lips. She looks as if she's perpetually suspicious of everyone. Her silver-streaked brown hair is impeccably styled beneath a decadent silk hat. Dressed in a striped, tea-length dark red dress, topped with a magnificent long tapestry overcoat with a fur collar. With a dainty petit point handbag on one arm and a large carpet bag clutched in the other, and plenty of accessories including jewelry, a belt, a wristwatch, and handmade shoes, Miss Prudence Croaker is a character you won't soon forget!
Styling
Miss Prudence Croaker, with her air of suspicion, offers wonderfully imaginative possibilities for your miniature displays. Here are some ideas to highlight her unique personality: The Disgruntled Traveler: Place her at a miniature train station. The Unimpressed Guest: Position her in a grand miniature parlor, casting a discerning eye over the proceedings. A "Scene of Intrigue" Display: For a more dramatic vignette, set her slightly apart from other miniatures, hinting at a secret or a mystery she's trying to uncover (or guard!).

A Note About Value
Every miniature we offer has been carefully evaluated for its craftsmanship, rarity, condition, provenance, and collectibility. Many of the artisan pieces we sell are one-of-a-kind works that may never appear on the market again. While original retail prices provide an interesting historical reference, they rarely reflect decades of appreciation, the artist's legacy, or the scarcity of surviving examples.
Our pricing reflects the miniature's place within today's collector market and the years we've spent studying the artists, histories, and values that make these tiny works of art so special.
A Commitment to Research
Every miniature has a story, and uncovering it is one of our greatest passions. We carefully research each piece, but unsigned or illegible works can remain mysteries. If you can identify an artist or provide additional information, we'd be delighted to hear from you and will gladly update the listing to preserve their legacy.
