First published in 1722, Defoe’s novel follows the extraordinary life of its resourceful heroine through poverty, marriages, crime, imprisonment, transportation to America, and eventual prosperity. Its morally complicated and fiercely independent central character has helped make the novel an enduring classic of early English fiction. Raheb’s edition is bound in deep cobalt blue pyroxylin with elegant gilt script, elaborate corner flourishes, a finely patterned border, and additional gilt decoration along the spine.
