Why You’ll Love It

This exceptional 1:12 scale walnut library bookcase by Alan Barnes of Tarbena Miniatures is a finely crafted example of traditional English miniature furniture. Made from walnut wood, the case has a rich tone and beautifully scaled grain, with crown molding, a subtle mid-level dividing ledge, and a bracket-foot base with a shaped scalloped apron. What makes this piece especially distinctive is its clever construction: the shelves are fitted with removable insert blocks designed to resemble tightly packed antique books. Each faux volume is individually hand-painted in deep red, green, blue, plum, and parchment tones, with detailing that suggests gilded spine bands and aged leather bindings. The finish has the warm, gently worn character collectors associate with Tarbena Miniatures, making this a highly refined and display-ready piece for a traditional miniature library. On the reverse, it is signed and dated 2017.

Perfect for

A beautiful addition to libraries, studies, sitting rooms, and traditional dollhouse interiors, especially those furnished in English, Georgian, or classic antique-inspired styles. Ideal for collectors seeking fine artisan case furniture, realistic library pieces, or elegant accessories for a well-appointed miniature manor house.

A Note About Value

Every miniature we offer has been carefully evaluated for its craftsmanship, rarity, condition, provenance, and collectibility. Many of the artisan pieces we sell are one-of-a-kind works that may never appear on the market again. While original retail prices provide an interesting historical reference, they rarely reflect decades of appreciation, the artist's legacy, or the scarcity of surviving examples.

Our pricing reflects the miniature's place within today's collector market and the years we've spent studying the artists, histories, and values that make these tiny works of art so special.

A Commitment to Research

Every miniature has a story, and uncovering it is one of our greatest passions. We carefully research each piece, but unsigned or illegible works can remain mysteries. If you can identify an artist or provide additional information, we'd be delighted to hear from you and will gladly update the listing to preserve their legacy.
