A truly enchanting antique miniature clock, exquisitely hand painted in Viennese enamel over brass and believed to date from the late 19th or very early 20th century. Beneath a soft pastoral sky, a seated gentleman plays music beneath a tree while an elegantly dressed lady listens, a romantic Georgian-style courting scene painted in extraordinary detail. It features a real clock mechanism. Its rare size makes it especially captivating for a refined Georgian or French dollhouse interior.
It was originally designed as a small travel clock (see final picture of a similar clock for an example of how it would have originally looked housed within a fitted leather case).
