Why You’ll Love It
A beautifully coordinated set of four vintage Mini Mundus porcelain apothecary jars, inspired by the practical drug and herb containers found in historic 18th-Century European pharmacies. Style B features taller, straight-sided cylindrical bodies with fitted lids, subtly flared feet, crisp cobalt blue banding, and delicate gold accents against glossy white porcelain. Each jar bears a different Latin inscription representing a historic pharmaceutical preparation, including botanical extracts, digestive remedies, and medicinal ointments. Their wide-mouthed, albarello-style form was traditionally well suited to storing dry herbs and other pharmaceutical ingredients, making this set a wonderfully convincing addition to a miniature apothecary, physician’s cabinet, or 18th-century interior.
- EXT. LUPULI – Extract of hops, traditionally used as a mild sedative and sleep aid, as well as a bitter tonic intended to stimulate digestion.
- EXT. BORAGIN – Extract of borage, historically used to encourage perspiration, soothe fevers, and relieve certain respiratory complaints.
- EXT. DULCAM – Extract of bittersweet nightshade, historically used in carefully controlled preparations for chronic skin conditions, rheumatic complaints, and certain respiratory ailments.
- MEL. DESP. – Clarified honey, heated and skimmed to remove impurities and traditionally used as a soothing base for cough syrups and electuaries, as well as in topical preparations.
Displayed together on the shelves of a miniature apothecary, in a physician’s cabinet, or an 18th-century interior, they create a wonderfully convincing sense of period detail.

A Note About Value
Every miniature we offer has been carefully evaluated for its craftsmanship, rarity, condition, provenance, and collectibility. Many of the artisan pieces we sell are one-of-a-kind works that may never appear on the market again. While original retail prices provide an interesting historical reference, they rarely reflect decades of appreciation, the artist's legacy, or the scarcity of surviving examples.
Our pricing reflects the miniature's place within today's collector market and the years we've spent studying the artists, histories, and values that make these tiny works of art so special.
A Commitment to Research
Every miniature has a story, and uncovering it is one of our greatest passions. We carefully research each piece, but unsigned or illegible works can remain mysteries. If you can identify an artist or provide additional information, we'd be delighted to hear from you and will gladly update the listing to preserve their legacy.
