Why You’ll Love It

A beautifully coordinated set of four vintage Mini Mundus porcelain apothecary jars, inspired by the elegant medicinal containers found in historic 18th-Century European pharmacies. Style D features compact baluster-shaped bodies with fitted lids and graceful flared feet, decorated with crisp cobalt blue banding and delicate gold accents against glossy white porcelain.

  • AQ. ROSARUM – Rose water, distilled from rose petals and historically used as a cooling vehicle for internal medicines, a soothing wash for the eyes and skin, and a flavoring agent in pharmaceutical preparations.
  • CONS. SALVIAE – Conserve of sage, a historic medicinal preparation made by pounding fresh sage leaves with sugar and traditionally used as a tonic for sore throats, excessive perspiration, and memory.
  • LAUD. OPIAT. – Opiated laudanum, a potent opium-based preparation historically used as a powerful pain reliever and sedative, as well as a treatment for severe diarrhea.
  • AQ. PORTULAC – Purslane water, distilled from the succulent plant and historically regarded as a cooling preparation used for fevers, internal inflammation, and urinary irritation.

Each jar bears a different Latin inscription representing a historic pharmaceutical preparation. Footed jars of this form were traditionally associated with the storage of pills and other prepared medicines, making this set a wonderfully convincing addition to a miniature apothecary, physician’s cabinet, or 18th-century interior.

A Note About Value

Every miniature we offer has been carefully evaluated for its craftsmanship, rarity, condition, provenance, and collectibility. Many of the artisan pieces we sell are one-of-a-kind works that may never appear on the market again. While original retail prices provide an interesting historical reference, they rarely reflect decades of appreciation, the artist's legacy, or the scarcity of surviving examples.

Our pricing reflects the miniature's place within today's collector market and the years we've spent studying the artists, histories, and values that make these tiny works of art so special.

A Commitment to Research

Every miniature has a story, and uncovering it is one of our greatest passions. We carefully research each piece, but unsigned or illegible works can remain mysteries. If you can identify an artist or provide additional information, we'd be delighted to hear from you and will gladly update the listing to preserve their legacy.
