Why You’ll Love It

A fascinating set of six vintage Mini Mundus clear glass apothecary bottles, each fitted with a matching ground-glass stopper and a traditional shield-shaped pharmacy label. Their transparent glass gives this set a wonderfully delicate appearance while the Latin inscriptions lend convincing historical character to a miniature apothecary, physician’s study, laboratory, or cabinet of curiosities.

The assortment represents a remarkable cross-section of early pharmacy preparations:

  • A NITRUM – Nitre water, historically used in fever mixtures, as a cooling diuretic, and in various pharmaceutical and chemical preparations.
  • OL ANIS – Oil of anise, an essential oil distilled from aniseed and valued for easing digestive discomfort, soothing coughs, and flavoring bitter medicines.
  • ESS CASTOR – Essence of castoreum, a tincture prepared from beaver castoreum and historically used as an antispasmodic and sedative in treatments for convulsions and nervous disorders.
  • SPIR SAPON – Spirit of soap, an alcoholic soap solution historically used as a liniment for sore muscles and joints and as a cleansing skin wash.
  • A VITAEAqua vitae, or “water of life,” a distilled alcoholic spirit used medicinally and as a solvent for extracting and preserving herbal tinctures.
  • A ANTIM – Antimony water, a historic medicinal preparation administered in carefully controlled amounts to induce vomiting or promote sweating.

A Note About Value

Every miniature we offer has been carefully evaluated for its craftsmanship, rarity, condition, provenance, and collectibility. Many of the artisan pieces we sell are one-of-a-kind works that may never appear on the market again. While original retail prices provide an interesting historical reference, they rarely reflect decades of appreciation, the artist's legacy, or the scarcity of surviving examples.

Our pricing reflects the miniature's place within today's collector market and the years we've spent studying the artists, histories, and values that make these tiny works of art so special.

A Commitment to Research

Every miniature has a story, and uncovering it is one of our greatest passions. We carefully research each piece, but unsigned or illegible works can remain mysteries. If you can identify an artist or provide additional information, we'd be delighted to hear from you and will gladly update the listing to preserve their legacy.
