A fascinating little taste of Tudor dining history, this miniature platter is piled high with rustic squares of Tudor-style gingerbread sweetmeats and topped with a tiny decorative flag. Unlike the baked gingerbread familiar today, medieval and Tudor gingerbread was often made from breadcrumbs, honey, and costly spices, creating a dense confection served as a sweetmeat at the end of a feast. Presented on a pewter platter, this unsigned piece is attributed to Val Adams of Gramarye Keep in the UK.
